Date(s) of material from this resource digitized | 1942 |
General material designation |
From this file, LOI has digitized one textual record or image.
|
Scope and content |
This file contains representations and resolutions regarding the treatment of Japanese
Canadians post war. It includes several petitions from "repatriates" to Japan (many of which reference loss of property) and correspondence regarding the disposal
of Japanese Canadian property and the property of those deported. However, not all
of the correspondence within dates from the "post-war" period. Included are a number
of letters from before the forced liquidation order, proposing the deportation of
all Japanese Canadians, and in some cases, directly advocating the liquidation of
property.

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
