Scope and content
This file contains correspondence between members of the Canadian government (and between members of the Canadian and U.S. governments) seeking to establish and co-ordinate policy for allowing "repatriates" or those exiled to transfer money and property from North America to Japan. These records highlight differences in policies between Canadian and the U.S., the poor (and rapidly worsening) exchange rates for dollars to yen, and the destitution faced by those exiled. Included are also letters from prospective "repatriates" seeking clarification and assistance to keep their property.
