This series comprises thirteen sub-series consisting of Department of Labour files which contain a variety of correspondence, notices, reports, memoranda, licences, applications, and other documents concerning the following: restrictions on Japanese Canadians and the "security" of camps; Japanese national citizens, their forced segregation and exile, the forced sale of their property, and the policies about them; the Department of Lands, Victoria and their refusal to sell property to a Japanese Canadian man; the re-organization of the British Columbia Security Commission; property licences as related to the Department of Labour and Order in Council P.C. 946 in Quebec and Alberta; loss claims submitted by Japanese Canadians to the Department of Labour; work camps; the Hastings Park Assembly Centre; the loss and forced sale of Japanese Canadian property; government policy about Japanese Canadians; the forced exile of Japanese Canadians across Canada; Tashme, the Japanese Canadians there, and the forced exile of some of these Japanese Canadians; Privy Council appeal no. 58; "voluntary repatriation"; the policy, procedure, and legality of forced exile; forced exile and the Department of Mines and Resources, Immigration Branch; policies regarding the assets of exiled Japanese Canadians and Japanese nationals; requests for "repatriation"; the return of Japanese Canadians after exile; drafts of "repatriation" and resettlement bills of 1946; confirmation of Canadian citizenship status of Japanese Canadians; excerpts of intercepted private correspondence of Japanese Canadians; and requests for cancellation of applications for "repatriation."
