Scope and content
This item comprises a memorandum, dated 24 November 1942, concerning the treatment of enemy aliens in Canada. It calls for the revocation of Regulation 268[?], under the circumstances that "the past three years of war have shown that the vast majority of British subjects of former German and Italian nationality are wholeheartedly behind the national war effort." This revocation is suggested "in order to remove loyal British subjects of former enemy nationality from the liabilities imposed upon enemy aliens." Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
