SS "WORON" v CAN AM SHIPPING Co, Ltd
SS "WORON" v CAN AM SHIPPING Co, Ltd., [1927] 1 DLR 138
Appeal from Canadian American Shipping Company, Limited v. SS. “Woron” ([1926] 4 D.L.R.
339), which dismissed a motion stating that the Exchequer Court had no jurisdiction
over a dispute arising from admiralty law. Audette J. allowed the appeal, finding
that ' The jurisdiction of the Exchequer Court on its Admiralty side cannot be wider
than it was at the time of the passage of the Colonial Courts of Admiralty Act, 1890,
unless supplemented by clear and express legislative provisions.'

Terminology
Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese
Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment
and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes
of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological
choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice.
