Scope and content
Collection consists of images of Shirley Kakutani's childhood in Vancouver and her residence at Kamloops. Images also consist of her participation in a local parade in Kamloops. Images of her family and in particular her brother Joe Yamake are also included.
Name of creator
Junzo Yamake came to Canada from Ubikiyama, Shiga Ken at the age of twenty five. He apprenticed as a baker under Mr. Hayashi until he could open his own shop in 1927. He married Hatsuye Nishimura in 1928 and began a family.
Immediate source of acquisition
The digital copies of the records were acquired by the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective between 2014 and 2018.
