COPY To Mr. Shears
(Cheque refused and returned for redeposit - File 12495)
R. R. No. 1 Summerland, B.C. April 29, 1947.
Department of the Secretary of State,
506 Royal Bank Bldg. Hastings and Granville, Vancouver, B.C. Dear Sirs:
I am returning this cheque to you because I am not satisfied with it.
I wrote a letter to you asking you not to sell my property but you did so without my consent at a very unreasonable price and that is why I am sending the enclosed cheque back to you.
I would also like to remind you that I am a veteran of the First World War and should have at least some rights.
The enclosed is the cheque for the amount of $474.14.
Yours truly, Reg. No. 03236

Terminology

Readers of these historical materials will encounter derogatory references to Japanese Canadians and euphemisms used to obscure the intent and impacts of the internment and dispossession. While these are important realities of the history, the Landscapes of Injustice Research Collective urges users to carefully consider their own terminological choices in writing and speaking about this topic today as we confront past injustice. See our statement on terminology, and related sources here.
