Scope and content
This fonds comprises twelve series containing Victoria Daily Times newspaper articles from 1939 to 1967 pertaining to the dispossession of Japanese Canadians and the following: fishing licences; the seizure and disposal of fishing vessels; frozen financial assets in the timber and fishing industries; the fishing industry in British Columbia; land purchase, ownership, and leasing restrictions in BC; the forced sale of property and related protests; farmland in BC; the appointment of Mr. Justice Bird as commissioner for the claims commission; the Bird Commission and compensation for loss claims; a loss claim involving a fishing vessel not disposed of by the Custodian; and an Exchequer Court case concerning the seizure of property on Salt Spring Island.
