Scope and content |
The file comprises pieces of correspondence and other documents pertaining to the
following: balances owing to Japanese Canadian individuals (some affiliated with T. Matsuyama and Company Limited), including Ryotaro Kita, K. Ota [also listed as Kotaro Oto], Masetaro Mukai, Tomijiro Naka, Fujikazu Tanaka, Tokio J. Uyeda, and Shotaro Yamakami (Victor Cleaners); an excerpt from Time Magazine, dated June 26, 1950, titled "Conscience Payment";
personal correspondence sent to and by K.W. Wright, including some by F.G. Shears; a request by Takaichi Umezuki, Editor of The New Canadian, for books, files, and records of The Daily People and The Continental Daily Times newspapers in Vancouver, BC, from the Office of the Custodian; Yokohama, Japan, bonds and other bonds; discussions between George Tanaka, of the Japanese Canadian Citizens Association, and Shears (and then Shears and Wright) regarding an article published in the Continental Times by Senji Takashima concerning the Japanese Property Claims Commission; claims of the Bird Commission; a "Writ of Gratitude"; goods stored and delivered by the Custodian, including missing goods—such as a "Buddhist Bible written in the original Hindustani";
paid claims of prisoners of war; office business–related correspondence, including
that concerning the closure of the Custodian Vancouver office; inquiries forwarded to Shears due to the closure of the Custodian Vancouver office; H. Sakamoto, of Furuya Trading Company Ltd., inquiring about the possibility of the former shareholders of M. Furuya Co. Ltd. setting up a business under than name in Vancouver in the 1950s; the records and account of M. Furuya Co. Ltd.; expenses for inspections; a request from a librarian of a public high school in
New Zealand sent to the Secretary of State in Vancouver for advertising materials and other historical and geographical documents about British Columbia for "teaching and reference purposes"; and the Bird Commission claim of E. Kagetsu and Deep Bay Logging Company Limited.
