Scope and content
This image depicts a young boy (left) and a younger girl (right) posted on a stage in front of a painted background. The boy is wearing a styled wig, wooden sandals, and a kimono. Around his neck is a sash. He is seated cross legged on the stage. The girl is wearing a stylized black wig, a kimono, a white sash around her waist, and wooden sandals on her feet. In her left hand she holder an object propped against her shoulder. The background is a bridge over a river with houses on the far side.
Name of creator
Fumiko Kawata was born in 1938 in Cumberland BC to parents Itoko and Yoshitoshi Kawata. Yoshitoshi's parents were Sowa & Kinshiro Kawata from Ehime prefecture. Kinshiro came to Canada as a farm labourer on the Empress of Russia Dec 19, 1922, his nearest relative at that time was Tomi Kawata of Yanazaki Mura, Nishiwa gori, Ehime Ken, Japan. Itoko and Yoshitoshi were born in Japan and remained Japanese Nationals.
